Joseph Mutale

Joseph Mutale is a Professor of Sustainable Energy and Electric Power Systems as well as Director of Social Responsibility in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom.

Prior to joining The University of Manchester in 2002, Prof Mutale spent over 15 years in the electric utility industry in Zambia where his last role was Director of Engineering Development at ZESCO, the Zambian National Utility.

Prof Mutale cofounded the Zambia Renewable Energy Association, for which he is the current Chairman. He also founded and is the immediate past Chair of the IEEE Working Group on Sustainable Energy Systems for Developing Communities and is a member of the CIGRE Advisory Group on Rural Electrification. He is a Fellow of IET and Senior Member of IEEE. His research interests are in power system economics and transition to low carbon sustainable energy systems.
