Melvin Matibag

Atty. Melvin A. Matibag is the current President of the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo), a government agency that originally managed and operated the Philippines' transmission grid and which now oversees the operations of the private company that currently operates the transmission system through a concession agreement.

Before joining the electric power industry, Atty. Matibag worked at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in various capacities including OIC-Asst. General Manager for Operations and Terminal Manager. In March 2010, he became General Manager of the NAIA.

During his watch, he led an intensified crackdown against syndicates involved in human and drug smuggling, money laundering, car robberies, and colorum (illegal public transport) vehicles resulting in the arrest of lawless elements and confiscation of illegal drugs and laundered money. He also embarked on the improvement and upgrade of the airport's terminals and major facilities and prioritized airport safety and security.

Previously, he worked as one of the Directors of the Laguna Lake Development Authority, the government agency responsible for the promotion and acceleration of development and balanced growth of the Laguna Lake area and surrounding provinces, cities and towns, representing the Office of the President of the Philippines. He also became the Legal and Political Affairs Consultant in the Province of Laguna from 2003 to 2006.

Moving to TransCo in January 2017, he worked to protect of the interests of the country's electricity consumers and the national government by strengthening TransCo's role as owner of the transmission assets and its capability to enforce compliance of the transmission concessionaire with the provisions of the concession agreement and the policies of the Department of Energy.

Atty. Matibag holds a Bachelor of Arts degree Major in Philosophy from the University of Santo Tomas and a Juris Doctor degree from Ateneo de Manila University School of Law. He passed the Bar examinations in 1996.

He is presently a Candidate for Master of Laws (Major in Corporate and Finance Law) from Wayne State University, Michigan, U.S.A. He has also taught several law subjects at the University of Manila and San Sebastian College School of Law.
