Affiliated Consultant
NERA Economic Consulting, Singapore

Dr. Peter Bird is an experienced advisor in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He has a PhD in economics from Cambridge University, and early in his career, he played a key part in designing the UK electricity market. He is currently based in Singapore and works with companies throughout Southeast Asia.

Dr. Bird is an experienced expert witness in international arbitration focused on the power and gas sector and has testified in several forums. His experience includes acting as an expert witness in ICC arbitrations between two European utilities and between a utility and a contractor, and advising on a gas arbitration in Singapore.

Dr. Bird has guided corporations on acquisitions and disposals in energy and infrastructure; borrowers on project finance, acquisition financing, and debt restructuring; and government entities in the UK, Continental Europe, South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand on energy industry restructuring and privatizations in developed and emerging economies.

As a senior advisor at Rothschild, where he was formerly Executive Vice-Chairman, Dr. Bird's focus is on M&A in power, utilities, and infrastructure. He co-led the advisory group's global power team on high-profile, politically-sensitive transactions and built an international reputation as an expert in electricity sector restructuring and privatization. Prior to that, Dr. Bird worked as an economic consultant in the oil and nuclear sectors and as an academic economist at Stirling University, a role in which he authored more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed economics journals.

For nine years, he was a director of Vector Ltd, a publicly listed infrastructure network. He was a founder director of three donor-financed supporters of pro-poor private infrastructure, namely InfraCo Asia, Infraco Africa and Green Africa Power.
